Multi Timeframe Charts: Picture in Picture in One View

TI Pro · PiP charting is also in the Web Dashboard

PiP embeds a second timeframe of the same stock inside each chart. The 15-minute trigger and the daily trend it trades into stay in one frame, so you judge the setup without flipping windows.

Named to the Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest-growing private companies six years in a row (2017–2022).

TI Pro chart window for MSFT, Microsoft Corporation, on a 15-minute timeframe, with a TI Wave band and B and S markers on the main chart, labeled +2.86% in 6+ days, and a smaller daily MSFT chart embedded at the lower left, labeled +28.49% in 5+ months
Picture in Picture in TI Pro: the inset at lower left is a daily MSFT chart covering 5+ months, sitting over the 15-minute intraday view of the same stock. The B and S markers are TI Wave entry and exit triggers drawn on the chart, not a record of trades. Past results, including backtests, don’t guarantee future results.

PiP charts in 30 seconds

  • A picture in picture stock chart nests a smaller chart of the same stock, on a different timeframe, inside the main chart.
  • The PiP layout has three main charts with one embedded chart each: six timeframes of one stock on screen.
  • Scroll inside the embedded chart to set its range; the chart labels the move over that range.
  • PiP is part of TI Pro, and Web Dashboard charting includes it too.

What a picture in picture stock chart does

Many traders flip between a daily chart and an intraday chart to judge one setup. PiP removes the flip. Each main chart carries an embedded “child” chart of the same stock on a different timeframe, so a short-term trigger sits next to the longer trend it belongs to.

In the hero image above, the main chart is MSFT on 15-minute bars with a TI Wave band, a moving average and resistance and support lines. The inset is MSFT on daily bars. One glance answers two questions: what price is doing now, and where that sits in the past year.

Multi-timeframe charts without extra windows

In the PiP layout Trade Ideas describes, three main charts each hold an embedded chart, so six timeframes of one stock fit on one screen. Pairings traders use include daily with monthly, 5-minute with weekly, and 3-minute with the daily support and resistance a stock is trading into.

Because each pair is one chart, there is nothing to arrange or keep in sync. Change the symbol and every pair follows it.

How to work a PiP chart

  1. Start from the preset timeframes. Each chart pair opens with a main and an embedded timeframe.
  2. Scroll inside the embedded chart. The mouse wheel widens the date range, back several years if you want, or tightens it to recent action.
  3. Read the move. As you change the range, the chart shows how far the stock moved over that period, with no manual math.
  4. Keep your layout. Each chart pair holds its own custom timeframes, and they stay put when the symbol changes.
Trade Ideas chart of CYPH, Cypherpunk Technologies, on a daily timeframe from July to October 2026, with a smaller CYPH chart embedded in the lower-left corner, Picture in Picture style. The main chart is labeled +246.75% in 5+ months and the embedded chart +187.74% in 5+ months
Another PiP pair: a daily CYPH chart with a smaller chart of the same stock embedded at lower left. The label on each chart shows the move over its selected range.

Who uses PiP charts, and how

When a Streaming Alert fires, load the stock and check its longer timeframe before acting on the short one.
