External Linking Dumping Massive Amounts of Repeat Data
« on: August 02, 2010, 04:32:26 pm »
I have a simple alert window(new highs) externally linked to notepad. Sometimes it works like it should, dumping one ticker for every new high alert. But then there are times when it just goes nuts and will dump like 10 tickers for every one alert and basically freeze the computer. Any idea what's going on here? Thanks

We can start by looking at the strategy you are using.  Please post it here or if you would like, email it to info@trade-ideas.com and reference this thread along with screenshots or any extra information you can provide.  Thanks

As mentioned in the original post the alert window is just a simple New High(filtered) window.  There are no window specific filters. Exchanges set to Nasdaq, NYSE, Amex. Symbol list set to exclude ETF, Holder, Ishares.

The rate of the posts via the linking feature to Notepad is dependent upon the level of activity within your strategy.  Your simple strategy may produce alot or a few alerts at any given moment.  As for why your computer freezes during the heavy activity, I might suggest you try to replicate the phenomenon on another computer to determine if it is or is not related to your computer, processor, memory, etc.

But why would I get one alert in the alert window and 10 in notepad? Do you understand what I'm asking here? Thanks

Which checkboxes (if any) do you have selected on the Set Up External Linking Window?  Also, what operating system are you using?

So to be clear TradeIdeas_DA, there is no way to consistently get 1 symbol to show up in notepad for every 1 alert in the alert window?

Sunny - I will contact you shortly to set up a remote session where I can see first-hand what is happening.

Hi Brad, before doing a remote have you tried replicating the issue on your system. It's pretty easy to do. I have tried this on 3 systems, the results were the same on all of them.

Brad, I'm not talking about clicking. Just have the data populate notepad as it appears in the alert window! lol. Please try it that way. (via Actions>On Each Alert>Send To Linked Window List(CHECKED)) Thanks
