How do I use the custom formula
« on: September 24, 2011, 03:54:52 am »
I am a newbee with tradeideas. Looks like good tool.
How & where do I use the custom formulas? In the insturction manual I dont see clearly how to use the custom formulas. I can create a custom formula but dont see any icon or place to use it.
My end goal is to use a customer formula which gives me mid pivot points and use it get alerts whenever they are hit.
Any help will be appreciated.

So you say you have created a custom formula - when you created it, it should have been saved as Ux or Uxx - as in U1 or U10.  Now when you create a Top List or Alert window or go to an existing TL or Alert window, right click when you are in the window to bring up Configuration.  Click on Configuration and then Window Specific Filters - scroll down to the bottom of the list and you should find the Custom Formula that you created - U something.  You can use it as you would use any of the other filters in the list.

The Custom Formula that you created, did you use the pre-existing Pivot formulas? [PivotR2] [PivotR1] [Pivot] [PivotS1] [PivotS2]

Thx for the info. I see my custom formula in configuration.

Yes I used pre-existing pivot formulas.

But I have another question. What value is compared with the Min and Max values specified in the configuration? What if some one uses a mix of price, volume pre existing formula as shown below? Instructions pdf is not very clear about what is compared.
([PV] > 500) || ([Pivot] )

Does this help?

http://www.trade-ideas.com/MinMaxNegative/?min=-0.25&max=0.25&filter_name=Pivot

I assume what you are trying to do is 1st to find stocks in which the % Volume Today is greater than 500% - if that is true, then alert me when the stock is a certain % above or below the Pivot point.  The above should explain how to use the Min Max values that your Custom Formula created.

When I use a simple formula: ([Price]<100000) with a symbol list main_indx which contains following symbols: GLD
IWM
QQQ
SLV
SPY
UUP
and set heart beat to 1 min, I dont get all of these symbols every minute. Why is that?I get batches of symbols every 3 minutes.

IWM

All filters satisfied.

81

2:22:36

SPY

All filters satisfied.

Aside from the fact that it doesn't seem to work - why do you want to do that?

Following formula did not work. Hence I was trying the above mentioned simple formula.
Following did not work with a list or single symbol spy. It should have worked because I am trying to see if price is with a 20% band around pivot point.

http://www.trade-ideas.com/View.php?O=8000000000000000000000000_41d_0&QHB=1&MinU6=0.5&WN=piv_large_band&SL=xSPY&S=1
Formula for piv_large_band: ([Price]<1.1*[Pivot]&& [Price]>0.9*[Pivot])

I tried putting your custom formula in a Top List with various times from today and all I saw were symbols with 0.00 as the value so I'm sorry, I can't help you.  Hopefully one of the tech guys from TI will read this and perhaps come up with a solution.

The heartbeat alert updates every 3 minutes - not any sooner. Top Lists update every 30 seconds. FYI. Does that help?
