Bug: Fix Holly's risk-on profit report.
« on: February 19, 2019, 04:00:10 pm »
In all Holly's Stragety Trades windows, the reported risk-on profit is bugged as it takes the best number between:
- not having a stop loss and keeping the position open until the end of the day
- exiting at the stop loss price.

You can't both exit position at stop-loss and then exit at the end of the day if the price reversed favorably!!

There are many examples of this bug.  For example, today, on February 19th, 2019:

CENTA: Short position at 26.76, price went up, triggered the SL and continued up, currently at 27.63.  Risk-on pft should be -0.87$, but -0.25$ (same as risk-off) is reported as-if SL stopped the trade and lessened the loss.
UTX: Long position at 127.87, price went down, triggered the SL, but later came up, currently at 129.01.  Risk-on pft if 1.14$ as is SL was not hit, but SL should have stopped the trade (as it did for CENTA), so Risk-on pft should be -0.56$ (same as risk-off)

Can't attach picture, so here is a link to: https://imgur.com/a/cYpsCp8

JWM should also report -0.77$ instead of -0.28$ as without stop, the loss would have been -0.77$.

Bottom line is: either report the profit at SL or without SL, but not the best of the 2.

Thank you for your message.
Risk on is a gauge to be used to determine if holding until the end of the day is better than exiting at the suggested time stop.  The next version of the Brokerage+ and Holly AI will include data for re-entry.  While we do not recommend holding past a protective stop loss, the possibility of re-entry exits.  The next version of the software will place a re-entry signal mid-way between the stop and the initial AI entry signal.
In addition we will also be modifying the Risk On calculation.  We have not decided whether we will allow the risk on calculation to continue (even in the event of a stop) or halt any further calculation at the time of the stop.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I know re-entry is possible, but then many other scenarios could happen and current risk-on calculation doesn't reflect any of those scenarios (such as being stopped a second time).  Moreover, re-entry implies doubling fees/commissions and doubling possible slippage.

Which calculation is used when reporting performance such as in this press release [https://www.trade-ideas.com/2019/02/trade-ideas-awarded-best-machine-learning-development-in-2019-fund-technology-and-wsl-awards] ?

If the best of the two among being stopped or holding through (re-entering) is taken, then I think this is misleading about the actual performance.

We are offering both Risk Off and Risk On results in the press release.  32 and 94 percent respectively.

Yes, I did read that.  I was asking about which calculation was used for the Risk On results?

Hi,

The best place to get help is to email: info@trade-ideas.com

the Traders don't really monitor the messageboard, they monitor the email system.

Thanks.
