bollanger band alert
« on: June 02, 2010, 08:03:54 pm »
guys,

I'd really like it if you could create an alert (not a filter) which had bollinger band contractions, whereby I could set the contraction parameters.

so if a stock was going sideways and the bands contracted from X% to Y% I would get an alert.

I have tried, without great success, the NR7 and consolidation alerts.   I think this contraction one would be great.

I'll add it to the queue of development requests.  It would help if you can capture some stock examples of what you want. Thanks

take any stock that has a 5min sideways drift / consolidation.   put the standard 2/20 BB's around it......now as the bands come together. becoming tighter and tighter  I'd want the alert.

Im just not sure what % that wud be.....so I'd have to play around with min / max parameteres.

make sense?

Getting alerts on BB crossings on upper and lower bands
{eg. Crossed Below/Above Lower/Upper Band} plus being able to set the StdDevs for the upper and lower band positions would be very useful too.

Note that we do have StdDev filters for volatility (http://www.trade-ideas.com/Help.html#WSF_MinBB) that closely approximate what you want to achieve with the BBs.  Try adding this filter and see if your results improve.

check out the 5th post down byjficquette.  I believe this is what I need...a squeeze alert.  there is coding there.
http://www.elitetrader.com/vB/showthread.php?threadid=89352

also found all this http://www.google.ca/search?hl=&q=bollinger+band+squeeze+indicator&sourceid=navclient-ff&rlz=1B3MOZA_enCA343CA343&ie=UTF-8&aq=1&oq=bollinger+band+s

more code
http://www.scribd.com/doc/15452030/Squeeze-Indicator-With-Bollinger-Band-SMA-and-Keltner-Channel

its very important that I can set a min / max for the distance between the upper and lower BB.  that way when the bands tighten to a very small %,  say <1% I'd receive an alert.....at that time a signficant move should be right around the corner.

watch the video..
I dont want a histogram but the basic idea remains the same...I want to be alerted when the volatility dries up.

also look at SPB.cat  from 12-3:15 today, june 11.....stock in a range of 2-3 pennies...again I get no alerts...why???

I want something that shows when a stock is going sideways and volatility dries up.   at 3:20 the stock pops and I dont
have any.
