I dont quite understand what trade-ideas is
« on: March 13, 2012, 05:13:41 AM »
Could someone explain to me what service do Trade-ideas provide? Are those services compared in any way to platforms such as zulutrade?

Hi and welcome.

Trade-Ideas scans for patterns in the market you can custom create or choose from predefined strategies.  Creating scans is done by selecting a combination of alerts and filters to create the patterns you want to see i.e., a 30-day high on higher than usual volume with earnings due out this week, etc.

We also offer the ability to backtest such patterns for their profitability in the market (The OddsMaker) and, with select brokers, allow for automated trading from those backtested scans.

From just a quick glance at zulutrade - Trade Ideas currently only covers the following asset classes: equities, options volume, ETFs, Indices, OTC/BB, and Pink Sheets.  We do this for several international exchanges like Germany, Canada, Brazil (coming soon) as well as fo course all the US Exchanges.

More information can be found in our Support section and this forum: http://www.trade-ideas.com/IndexSupport.html

Here's another way to look at what Trade Ideas does.  Most scans with other types of programs rely on you to perform the scan periodically - so if I want to find all stocks that are currently at the high of the day, I have to physically "pull" that information out of the market by performing a scan.  Trade Ideas constantly monitors the market and when your criteria is met, TI "pushes" the results automatically to  you.

While alerts are great, I am finding that the Top Lists are a fantastic way to analyse the market - especially if you create a list of stocks that you want analysed (by creating a symbol list).

For example, I want to find the stocks that are trading at a high relative volume rate, so I have this top list running 1st thing in the morning:

http://www.trade-ideas.com/StockInfo/_TopListResult.html?form=1&show0=Price&show1=TV&show2=FCP&show3=PV&show4=RD&show5=YPV&show6=TRangeD&show7=Range5DP&show8=Range20DP&show9=PCR&show10=Up&show11=FOW&show12=RY&show13=DRSI&MinPrice=2&MinTV=300000&MaxPrice=80&sort=MaxPV&X_NYSE=on&X_AMEX=on&XN=on&WN=Abnormal+Volume

I sort it with the Volume % column so the top volume stocks are at the top.  I then copy and paste the stocks I want, usually down to 150% and put them in a symbol list - and I will periodically update the list.

Then this is the strategy window I use all day - sorted with the position in the daily range - it is highly visual and quickly shows me the top and worst performing stocks:

http://www.trade-ideas.com/StockInfo/_TopListResult.html?form=1&show0=Price&show1=TV&show2=FCP&show3=PV&show4=Range30&show5=Range60&show6=RPD&show7=RD&MinPrice=3&MinTV=1000000&SL=1a3a38a62&sort=MaxDV&X_NYSE=on&X_AMEX=on&XN=on&WN=Symbol+List+Strategy

I have some other symbol lists included in this strategy - so if you do some scanning at night and want to monitor some stocks that you find, you can create a symbol list with those stocks in it.

I try to keep the total # of stocks to no more than 50 - 50 is what fits on my monitor so that I can quickly look at the top and bottom of the list to see what is performing the best/worst.

Also, if you look at the Position in Previous day's column - if it is close to 0, then that stock may be on the cusp of breaking either above or below the previous day's high or low - something that many traders are looking for.

I doubt they have anything in common....one system is scanning stocks across platform and the other is a e-platform to trader forex by following other traders or manually.
